Open Document Format for Office Applications

ODF (Open Document Format for Office Applications) là một chuẩn định dạng dùng để biểu diễn văn bảng điện tử như spreadsheets, charts, presentations, word processing. ODF được tao ra dựa trên nền tảng định dạng file XML.

Spec của ODF được phát triển bởi Sun, và theo chuẩn của OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications là ISO/IEC 26300:2006 ( OASIS là Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards, 1 tổ chức chuyên đưa ra các chuẩn về các lĩnh vực Web Services, e-Commerce, XML Processing …)

• .odt for word processing (text) documents
• .ods for spreadsheets
• .odp for presentations
• .odb for databases
• .odg for graphics
• .odf for formulae, mathematical equations

Những file theo chuẩn ODF sử dụng công nghệ nén không thất thoát ZIP để lưu các tập tin và thư mục, nhờ đó có thể giảm thiểu dụng lượng khá tốt. Ngoài ra, các trúc của các file cũng khá rõ rang khi được chia thành 4 file XML: content, styles, metadata, and application
